The Wheel of Fortune: Embracing Change in 2025
As we step into the new year, many of us seek guidance and inspiration to navigate the unknown. For some, this comes from setting resolutions or creating vision boards. For others, like myself, it involves drawing a tarot card that symbolises the year's theme.
This year, I drew The Wheel of Fortune, a powerful card that embodies the essence of change, cycles, and the unpredictable nature of life. It is one of the most iconic cards in the tarot deck and reminds us that life is a series of ups and downs, and that change is the only constant. As we journey through 2025, this card encourages us to embrace the twists and turns of fate with resilience and an open heart.
Understanding The Wheel of Fortune
The Wheel of Fortune is one of the Major Arcana cards in the tarot deck, and it's rich with symbolism and meaning. The wheel at the centre of the card represents the cyclical nature of life and destiny, and the constant motion of fate. It reminds us of the inevitability of change and life’s natural cycles - birth, growth, decay, and renewal.
On the wheel sits a sphinx representing wisdom and equilibrium. On the bottom right is Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead, rising on the wheel, who is concerned with truth. The golden serpent descending the wheel on the left is Typhon, the Egyptian god of evil, representing the act of descending into the material world. They are forever rotating in a cycle.
In the corners of the Wheel of Fortune card are four winged creatures associated with the four fixed signs of the zodiac. Their wings signify stability amidst movement and change, and each holds a the Torah which represents wisdom and self-understanding.
Embracing Change
Embracing change can be challenging, but it is also an opportunity for growth and transformation. When we resist change, we create tension and stress, but when we accept it, we allow ourselves to flow with life's natural rhythm. Here’s a few things we can do to help ourselves with this:
Mindset Shift: Start by shifting your mindset from fear to curiosity. Instead of viewing change as a threat, see it as a chance to learn and evolve.
Emotional Resilience: Build emotional resilience by practicing mindfulness and self-compassion. Acknowledge your feelings, but don't let them take control. It's okay to feel uncertain or scared.
Seek Support: Friends, family, and mentors can provide valuable guidance and encouragement.
Stay Flexible: Life rarely goes exactly as planned, and flexibility allows you to adapt to new circumstances.
Practice Self-Care: Take care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and mindfulness practices can help you stay grounded during turbulent times.
Personal Reflection
So what does this card mean for me? I believe that this year will be filled with significant changes and opportunities. I must remember to go with the flow rather than resist, and embrace the opportunities and challenges with an open mind. These experiences will lead to personal growth and fulfillment. There will be moments where I will need to learn from past cycles in order to navigate future highs and lows more effectively, so periods of introspection and healing are to be expected. But I trust that the universe has a plan, and as long as I stay resilient, I will be able to navigate the twists and turns of 2025.
The Wheel of Fortune is a reminder that change is inevitable and constant. By embracing the opportunities and challenges that come our way, we open ourselves up to growth and transformation. As we navigate the ups and downs of 2025, let’s do so with resilience, flexibility, and an open heart. I look forward to this journey and will continue to share with you.
